Dr. Ana UKA
Dr. Ana Uka graduated from Istanbul University with a 4-year Bachelor degree in Educational Sciences. She completed her graduate studies with a Master of Science in Education, Family and Children Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Dr. Uka holds a PhD in Family and Community Studies at the Institute of Family and Neighborhood Life at Clemson University in South Carolina, USA.
She has worked as an expert through the U.S. Department of State, Council of International Programs and Columbus International Programs (CIPUSA & CIP) in several centers and schools such as Family and Children Services, Catholic Family Services in Kalamazoo/Michigan, the West Central School of MRDD in Columbus/Ohio, and Harmony Science Academy - North Austin in Texas, USA during 2007-2009. She is an external consultant and research team member for Albania on several projects at national and international level in cooperation with different organizations or coordination centers such as UN-IOM, AWEN, GADC, CVE, COST etc.
Since the academic year of 2011-2012, Dr. Uka is a full-time academic staff member at the Faculty of Phillology and Education at "Bedër" University College where she has held positions as a lecturer and deputy head of the Department of Educational Sciences. She also holds the position of the Coordinator of International Relations Office at Bedër since October 2018 and the position of the Head of the Department of Educational Sciences during the academic year of 2019-2020. Since the academic year of 2020 - 2021, Dr. Uka is the Head of the Department of Education and English Language at the Faculty of Humanities and Law. Since 2015, she has been teaching as a part-time lecturer at University of Tirana and University of Medicine.
Her research field focuses on educational and developmental issues of children and adolescents, family relationships, strengthening family-school partnerships, neglect and abuse of children, domestic violence, the process of rehabilitation and reintegration of marginalized persons, the rights of children and women, youth civic participation and community development. She has written a number of articles in these fields published in scientific journals with impact factor where in some of them she is also a member of the scientific or editorial board.
She is a member of several professional associations found in Albania and abroad such as the American Psychological Association (APA), the Global Alliance for Behavioral Health and Social Justice formerly known as the American Orthopsychiatric Association, the Albanian Institute of Sociology and the Network on Abuse, Violence and Mental Health in UK. She is also a member and co-chair of several Cost Actions project commissions and work groups.
